The American Chemical Society (ACS) West Point Student Section celebrated an extended National Chemistry Week by watching an ACS sponsored Program-in-a-Box presentation on “The Evolving Periodic Table,” and decorated cupcakes for Mole Day (23 October 2021), which they shared with fellow Cadets throughout the week. The celebration continues as Cadets participate in the College Bowl hosted by Vassar College on 27 October 2021, with students from Vassar College, Marist College, and other institutions in the Mid-Hudson area.
National Chemistry Week and Mole Day 2019
Mole Day was celebrated by baking cupcakes and decorating them to look like moles digging out of the ground, and baking mole shaped cookies. We baked about 136 cupcakes and cookies to share with Cadets, faculty, and staff in the department or passing through the department.
The Cadets very much enjoyed the ACS Program-in-a-Box live stream on "Marvelous Metals - Organometallic Chemistry". They learned a lot and it was a great opportunity for them to see the importance of metals in different aspects of chemistry, from catalysts in organic chemistry, to contrast agents for diagnostics, etc...
